Found Friday Vol 16

Found Fridays

16 Found Fridays, and there’s no sign of slowing down – thanks in large part to the openness and talent of the online design community. Side note: 16 was the number of Joe Montana, greatest quarterback ever. Anyway, this week’s finds include a great list of design books to read (it’s summer; go read in the sun!), a cool USB keychain drive made from recycled bicycle tubes, brilliantly designed coffee packaging, a great list of time-saving apps for web designers, and the first of what I’m sure will be many WordPress plugins for the new custom post type feature in WP 3.0. Read on, readers!

50 Must-Read Design Books to Inspire

I am an unabashed design nerd. After a hard day’s work designing, it’s not uncommon to see me drinking tea out of my Pantone mug while reading a book related to – you guessed it – design. This post has a whole bunch of worthwhile design books; check ’em out and get reading!

Tube: USB Drive Keychain

(via swiss-miss)

I know, I know, there are myriad ways to transport your files these days. There’s apps for iPhone like Airsharing; there’s Dropbox and many others. But the good ol’ USB key is holding fast: check out Tube, a USB keychain drive that is made from recycled bicycle tubes. Green, well-designed and good for us combo bike/design nerds.

One Village Coffee Packaging Design

I love coffee. In fact, as I type this I’m realizing I’ve incorporated my favorite things into this week’s Found Friday (that being design, obviously, but also bikes and coffee). This packaging design by Able is definitely one worth checking out. So good.

50 Powerful Time Savers for Web Designers

Smashing Magazine always have good posts & round-ups, but this one is worthwhile if only for the free online app Bounce. Check out the list if you’re a web designer – there’s sure to be many others in there you’ll find useful. I also am going to start using LaunchList on the regular.

WordPress Custom Post Types UI Plugin

This is for the developers and bloggers out there: custom post types is a new feature in WordPress 3.0. This plugin wraps a simple UI around it; probably one of the easier ways to begin working with the feature. Try it out and let me know what you think!

That’s it! See you on Monday.
