More About our Award-Winning Projects
Why Edmonton
The City of Edmonton wanted to create a vibrant website that told the human-centered stories of Edmonton and its diverse citizens. A main goal of the site was to attract users from outside of Edmonton through versatile storytelling. For the Why Edmonton project, we chose to go bold with our visuals and user experience. The site is a feast for the eyes, blending a dynamic color palette, playful animations, optional background graphics, and flexible font sizes and layouts that guide users through an interactive storytelling journey. We built this with accessibility at the forefront, meeting WCAG Level AA standards to ensure inclusivity for all. One of the standout features is the custom-built Digital Asset Library (DAL), which allows users to easily access and download a variety of media assets. Built on Gutenberg within WordPress CMS, the site offers exceptional flexibility and a streamlined editing experience.
ARCQEtivity
For nearly twenty years, The Alberta Resource Centre for Quality Enhancement (ARCQE) has been a cornerstone in supporting Alberta’s Early Learning and Care sector. The aim of the ARCQEtivity project was to create a user-friendly platform tailored to families engaging in bi-annual Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) screenings. The site is designed to be intuitive and user friendly with playful animations, like a tree that grows as cards/learnings are completed. ARCQEtivity stands out for its vibrant and engaging design. Each section features custom-illustrated animal characters, making the site visually appealing and fostering a playful connection with users, making the website fun. These design elements not only draw families in but also enhance the overall user experience, aligning with the joy and creativity inherent in early childhood development.
Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo
The objective of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo (FMWB) project was simple: create an immersive digital experience to highlight the diverse offerings of the area. Emphasizing storytelling, we closely collaborated with FMWB to shape user flows, information hierarchy, and messaging design. The result was a touchscreen app featured on an 86” display at their tourism center and accessible on smartphones for nationwide events. Efficiency was boosted by leveraging FMWB’s Storyblok CMS as a remote headless CMS, minimizing server overhead. The app, with 14 flexible components, emphasizes accessibility and usability, vividly showcasing the charm and authenticity of Alberta’s wild north and the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Region.
Caring deeply, and getting it done, are just a few philosophies we live by here at Paper Leaf. Projects like these three truly highlight the result of staying true to our core values and working collaboratively with our clients.
