Building a Better Communication Platform for School Boards

Design

The Alberta School Board Association (ASBA) represents and champions Alberta’s 61 locally-elected separate, public and francophone school boards. ASBA offers a provincial voice to school boards and provides a wide range of education and consulting services.

ASBA’s previous website was dated and poorly communicated the value and services ASBA provides to its members and the general public. Further, the site didn’t have the capability to allow content to be published to a secured members-only section. Lastly, the site was tedious to update and contained a vast amount of outdated content.

Working with ASBA’s team, we created a visually appealing and functionally robust site that allows for easy, scalable content editing while also communicating an accurate representation of the ASBA brand and values to the public and their members.

As with the majority of our websites, ASBA’s site features robust page construction and layout functionality through the CMS (WordPress), allowing content to be varied across every page. This puts the control of page additions, updates and content in control of the team at ASBA so they can quickly update any content or pages needed.

The website also has a restricted, Members-Only section. This restriction applies to pages, documents and a separate news feed, allowing for members to access specific content just for them. The Members’ only section also includes a robust resource library with links to key pages and downloadable documents from the site.

The Members section manages user authentication via Single Sign- On with ASBA’s learning management system, Absorb. This allows users signed in to the members section to seamlessly enter Absorb without needing to re-enter their credentials, or have a second set of credentials.

Lastly, there are a few innovative front-end interactions sprinkled throughout the UI – for instance, animated brand tiles. Hover over any of the tiled sections and see for yourself!
